Microsoft 365 file migration specialist

A technology team is seeking a detail-focused Microsoft 365 file migration specialist to support the transition of business content from legacy storage into Microsoft 365 cloud platforms, including OneDrive and SharePoint. This hands-on contract role focuses on assessing existing file environments, executing structured migrations, supporting end users through change, and maintaining clear, audit-ready documentation throughout the migration lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Assess existing file storage environments by reviewing folder structures, file volumes, permissions, and ownership to inform migration planning
  • Plan and execute migrations from on-premises file shares and third-party storage platforms into Microsoft 365 storage (OneDrive and SharePoint) using the SharePoint Migration Tool and related utilities
  • Coordinate migration schedules with business users and internal technology teams to reduce disruption and ensure content readiness
  • Validate migration outcomes by confirming data completeness, permissions alignment, accessibility, and usability for end users
  • Provide post-migration support, including troubleshooting access issues, permission mismatches, and content location questions
  • Guide end users on effective usage of OneDrive and SharePoint to encourage adoption and reduce repeat issues
